Lindsay Binegar, a resident of Greenfield, Ohio, did just that! She began saving her 4-H winnings when she was just 4 years old. By the time she graduated last June she had saved more than $40,000.
Binegar had planned to pay for college with her savings. When her parents offered to pay her tuition if she lived at home and commuted to campus, she jumped at the chance. She then had to decide what to do with her savings. After prompting from her dad, she paid $40,000 for a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with a 2 car garage at an auction. She painted the inside, replaced the carpet, and then rented the home to family members. She plans to use the rent to purchase a home when she marries her fiancé next year.
